Taking the first step towards your goal is half the battle won already!

I do believe in this statement because no matter how easy or difficult the journey towards your goal is, unless you start marching towards it, the goal is meaningless.

Boston Marathon 2022

After a lot of back and forth, yes/no, can do/can’t do attitude, fighting and doubting myself, I have finally made up my mind. Yes, I am running the 126th Boston Marathon on April 18th, 2022!

Boston Marathon

Boston Marathon

This is not going to be an easy run for me and I do have to, first of all, get accepted by a charity, but as long as that works, there is no doubt in my mind that I am running Boston Marathon in 2022. I am also collecting some data around how much I can expect to raise for Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital if they make me a part of their 2022 team. Will you please spend a couple of minutes filling out this survey (https://bit.ly/AGBostonMarathonSurvey)?

Why Boston Marathon?

I have 3 strong reasons to run Boston Marathon but I will share those once I get accepted by Spaulding. For now, I do want to talk about why I have gotten so obsessed with running marathon in general.

I live in Boston

If you are passionate about running and you live in Boston, you are bound to see yourself crossing the finish line of one of the six Abbott World Marathon Majors i.e. Boston Marathon. If you thought Bostonians were only crazy about baseball and football, you should see how Boston Marathon route is full of energy, cheers, and hugs (and kisses). I am no exception to those 100s and 1000s of runners who dream of crossing the finish line in Boylston Street with their arms raised up in the air in jubilation. After all Boston Marathon is the mecca of marathoning!

Marathon is a big achievement

Percentage of people in this world who completed a marathon successfully in 2018 was less than 0.015%. Popularity of marathon is increasing every year at a rapid pace but it still takes a lot of effort to be in that small group of people who have dared to do this.

Determination, commitment and perseverance

Running a marathon is no joke. It takes a lot of time, effort and dedication to prepare for it and finally cross that 26.2 miles line. For me, it is that feeling, that I can do something as difficult as this, if I want to and choose to. The journey itself is full of ups and downs, and challenges but the end result is so rewarding. I remember that moment when I finished my first marathon in 2019. I was screaming, crying and laughing at the same time. I want to live that moment again and again. It proves to myself that I can be stubbornly determined, which is not a bad feeling at all.

Making my friends/family proud

I feel good when my wife, my kids and my friends are proud of me for doing this. When my kids say to their friends that their dad has run a marathon, I see a spark in their eyes and I see a sense of pride in them. My chest swells in pride at that moment because I know that I have made my kids and family feel proud of me.

Now that I have taken that first step, please wish me luck in getting accepted for running 2022 by Spaulding Rehab and please don’t forget to take a couple of minutes to take this survey (https://bit.ly/AGBostonMarathonSurvey).
